About the Institute

The Executive Protection Institute is based in Highlander Lodge in Clarke County, Virginia. We are 60 miles west of Washington, DC, and 35 miles west of Dulles International Airport. Our Worldwide Headquarters is located in New York City at 16 Penn Plaza, in midtown Manhattan.

We are honored to have been chosen, since 1978, to provide training in our concept of personal protection techniques for personnel assigned to the best government, private and corporate protective teams in the world. Our graduates have gone on to continue training and practicing the techniques we have created; and in so doing, have created a new professional career field.

Our obligation includes imposing selection standards for all of our students with applicants carefully screened prior to admittance. We are seeking to train motivated dedicated men and women who are sincerely interested in learning how to provide the very best personal protective services and make a personal commitment to this profession. Our training techniques allow us to blend inexperienced novices with seasoned practitioners.

The first internationally recognized and respected training school with two decades of consistent quality training by experienced practitioners. We feature actual one-on-one and two-on-one protective training scenarios in addition to team training exercises. Our emphasis is on avoiding confrontations, and keeping your principal safe, secure and out of harm's way, through pre-planning and proper advance work techniques.

Dr. Richard Kobetz, founder, created the Personal Protection Specialist credential in 1978 and the state of Virginia adopted this title for those conducting personal protection in the state and require a 60 hour state approved PPS course. EPI is an approved Virginia State licensed security training school and the 100 hour plus course meets and exceeds the state approved and required course for Personal Protection Specialist certification.
